![]() | Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003) (PC, Xbox) ★★★★☆ Plot: It is four thousand years before the Galactic Empire and hundreds of Jedi Knights have fallen in battle against the ruthless Sith. You are the last hope of the Jedi Order. Can you master the awesome power of the Force on your quest to save the Republic? Or will you fall to the lure of the dark side? Genres: RPG, Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-Fi Quick review: I've always been a huge fan of the Old Republic era since I first played the MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic (2011), so I always wanted to finally play the game that started it all. It uses the usual BioWare gameplay structure, as seen in Mass Effect (2007) as well: choices and moral alignment define your path, alongside exclusive items, mission outcomes, interactions and abilities. I had to look for guides during certain parts — mostly during puzzles or certain combats, since they're not all completely intuitive. To be honest, it personally took me a while to get used to the game with its gameplay mechanics that some would say aged poorly, and the story started growing on me on the second half. Despite these details, I really enjoyed how much information there is in the game that hadn't been explored in the main six films — whether it be planetary conflicts, species history, or a deeper exploration into what the Force is. If you don't mind the frustrating parts of the game, it's fun to replay it to see what other choices you could've made, and how things would've turned out if you went the other way. I definitely recommend it if you're already into the Star Wars franchise. Pros: Good narrative, charming environments, varied characters, choices matter. Cons: Combat system may seem outdated for "modern" players, occassional bugs & glitches on newer systems. |
